Your Every Decision Matters – “The Slight Edge”

I work in the holistic field of energy healing.  Using the SimplyHealed Method®, I am able to help people feel lighter, happier, more content.  With the energy work I do, they are free to move forward, follow their dreams and uncover their true authentic self which brings them great joy and fulfillment.

It is simple.  It is freeing.  But, in most cases it requires some life skills for one to be able succeed at their journey.  For example, through energy work I can help someone who is battling to lose weight.  They may have blocks that are subconsciously keeping them heavy because deep down they believe being thin makes them vulnerable.  Yet once those blocks are removed the individual still has to use their life skills to keep all those sweets out of their mouth and lead a healthy lifestyle!

So how does one attain the necessary life skills?  This is a good question.  There are numerous self-help books.  There are online tutorials and trainings.  Finding the information you need may just require a simple Google search.  The trickiest part is putting it into action.

I have found a book that I think teaches the art of putting your new found life skills into action.  This book is “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olsen.

“The Slight Edge” is a way of thinking, a way of processing information that enables you to make the daily choices that will lead you to the success and happiness you desire.  It shows you how to create powerful results from the simple daily activities of your life, by using tools that are already within you.

You see, many things happen in our lives quietly in the background.  Those things don’t make any big noise or fuss about themselves – until someday the results (good or bad) are visible.  “The Slight Edge” is always working.

What if you had a choice of either $1 million dollars today or your money doubled each day for 30 days starting with only a penny, what would you do?  After you read “The Slight Edge” you may choose differently.

“The Slight Edge” is about making decisions – the small ones.  They are easy to do, and easy not to do.  However, those small decisions will eventually become life-changers.

Think about this…. “If you consistently cut out 145 calories daily – i.e. one can of soda, and everything else stayed similar, do you know that in three years you would be lighter by 45 pounds?  This is a very simple thing to do and a very simple thing NOT to do.

It is the little choices and actions, compounded day after day, that turn “The Slight Edge” into life’s outcomes

Here are some great insights directly from “The Slight Edge”:

“There are two prevalent types of attitudes: entitled and value-driven.  A value-driven attitude says, “What can I do to help you?”  An entitled attitude says, “What have you done for me lately?”  An entitled attitude says, “Pay me more, and then maybe I’ll work harder.”  A value-driven attitude says, “I’ll work harder, and then I expect you’ll pay me more.”  Which one are you?

“Every decision you make is a ‘Slight Edge’ decision.  What you’re going to do, how you’re going to act, what you’re going to read, who you’re going to chat with on the phone, what you’re going to eat for lunch, who you’re going to associate with.  How you’re going to treat your fellow workers.  What you’re going to get done today.”

In the book you find this telling graph that depicts the outcome of seemingly small, simple, inconsequential decisions.

In evaluating the graph, here are some more juicy nuggets from “The Slight Edge”.

“The predominant state of mind displayed by those people on the failure curve is blame.  The predominant state of mind displayed by those people on the success curve is responsibility.”

“People on the failure curve tend to focus on their past – and it pulls them down.  People on the success curve focus on their future.”

“No matter where you are, at any moment you can choose to step onto the success curve.”

We make decisions all day long every day – most of them are small and seem inconsequential yet they all have “Slight Edge” outcomes.  As you move forward on your journey to uncovering your true authentic self and finding joy and fulfillment don’t forget to enhance your life skills.  Incorporating the principles in “The Slight Edge” may be just the boost you have been looking for.
